He was a great professional and knowing him and drumming for him enhanced my career.
I don't have time now, but in the future I would love to tell you about drumming for
Tiny and producing a track he sang and played on. He was a great professional
and knowing him and drumming for him enhanced my career. I never played a gig
with him, except one, when he did not receive a standing ovation. He was a
gentleman and I thought he was quite gifted as a musician and singer. He could
bring the band into a new key with just his voice. He was impressive. He thought I
was great too. A real challenge to maintain excellence as he would go from polka
to waltz in an instant. I lived to never miss a beat no matter where he decided to go
when he was doing his act. I have many stories, photos and some cool
autographed items, like the Rolling Stone issue when he was on the cover. I played
about a dozen shows with Tiny in the 1980s and 90s in the NYC area and drove
him several times as well. We would talk politics, religion, show biz and old songs
and composers. He came to my house when I produced that track and thanked me
on the Howard Stern show as well. Then he went to the trouble to have Gary send
me a copy of that segment. I was sad when he passed but I believe he sings with
the Lord now. He was a believer and was never ashamed of it, even in a tough
place like the Stern show(I heard HS call Tiny the best guest he ever had and he
was.) Tiny was also patriotic. I have footage of him in a large parade supporting the
guys in Vietnam. I miss him. Thanks for having the site.
