BICENTENNIAL TIM!
Ahhhh, 1976....I'm hanging around drawing on a lazy Saturday afternoon,
waiting for the local radio station to give away tickets to the
upcoming Rod Stewart concert.
After a while I decide to go up to the 7-11 for some soda and
chips. When I returned home, as I was walking through the front door I heard from the radio: "
and now we'll take caller #9 at 453-#% ", I ran to the phone, dialed, and was delighted to hear ringing!
Then the voice on the other end says "congratulations! you are
caller number 9, and you've just won a pair of tickets to see TINY TIM'S BICENTENNIAL REVUE at The
Cork Club Lounge in Merritt Island!!" ....???......what happened to Rod Stewart!? It
seems when I left the house someone had changed the radio station!
Well, several weeks later, my friend Curt and I (aged 16) went to
the Cork Club for the big show! Our
first time in a strip club, and first time being served beer. Tiny
came out resplendent in all-American attire,
with several g-stringed / red, white & blue tasseled young gals
dancing on either side of him!!
As I recall, Mr.Tim probably performed for about an hour, playing
his popular favorites 'Tip Toe', 'Day Tripper',
and a slew of American Standards.
Afterward, my friend and I, a little tipsy, went back and were
warmly greeted by Tiny. He was very kind, and doled
out plenty of business cards to Curt (a budding guitarist) I only
wish I still had the autograph he gave me!
An AMAZING Show! I wouldn't have traded it for Rod Stewart tickets any day!!
