Remembering Tiny Tim

Welcome to the official Tiny Tim website!

In 1996 Bill Wagman of radio station KDVS (www.kdvs.org) interviewed Tiny Tim on his radio program. This interview can now be heard on the Secret Seven Records website. Click on the listen tab at the bottom of the information for their great Tiny Tim album "Tiny Tim Lost & Found 1963-1974", which you can order on their website. Special thanks to Mr. Bill Wagman for sharing this rare interview!
"Tiny Tim's Songs and Stories of the Crooners"

is the last recorded interview and performance of 1960's icon and ukulele legend Tiny Tim. Accompanying himself on ukulele, Tiny Tim sings 24 songs and snippets interspersed with remembrances of his life and musical influences.

This professionally produced, 38-minute entertaining and enlightening DVD shows that Tiny Tim was much more than a "one hit wonder." In addition to his trademark falsetto singing voice, Mr. Tim has a strong baritone and expertly mimics the great crooners Bing Crosby, Russ Columbo and Rudy Vallee. He tells why he started playing the ukulele and, with songs and stories, demonstrates his encyclopedic knowledge of the history of the great era of American popular song from the 1890s to the 1940s.

Videotaped at Ukulele Expo '96 just two hours before he suffered a non-fatal heart attack in front of a standing-room-only audience of admiring fans, it was Tiny's wish that "Songs and Stories of the Crooners" be produced expressly for the benefit and promotion of the Ukulele Hall of Fame Museum, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of ukulele music and history.

Although perhaps best remembered for his 1968 novelty hit "Tiptoe Through The Tulips" and for his wedding to Miss Vicky on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in front of 40 million viewers, Tiny Tim continued recording and entertaining as America's troubadour to the end. While singing "Tiptoe Through The Tulips" at a comeback performance on November 30th, 1996, he suffered another heart attack and died, ending an amazing five decade career. Tiny Tim remains one of the most instantly recognized personalities in entertainment.

Justin Martell to Work with Blue Pie and Tiny Tim Project!
12/07/2011

Justin Martell, a passionate and inspirational writer, is currently in the midst of writing a book on Tiny Tim, which he will be contributing to Blue Pie's Tiny Tim project and the re-release of his catalogue. Justin Martell

Justin first encountered Tiny Tim at the age of seven when he attended Spooky World, a Halloween theme park in Massachusetts. By chance, he happened to catch Tiny's act and as a young boy, was completely entranced by his presence. Hearing "Tip-Toe Thru' the Tulips With Me" when he was 15 years old reignited his love for Tiny Tim, hearing the song dislodged the old memory of seeing Tiny perform. From there, Justin began to collect anything and everything Tiny Tim related. After exhausting all official releases, he turned to bootlegs and became involved with the large network of Tiny Tim collectors in the United States and Canada.

In February of 2008, Justin conducted an interview with Ron DeBlasio (Tiny's manager from 1968-1970) for what was to be a simple article for Journalism 101. Almost 80 interviews and 700 pages later, he has almost finished his book with his first draft of an authorized biography of Tiny Tim.

Now based in Astoria, New York Justin is in the process of putting together the authorized biography of Tiny Tim. The book contains: a 34-page chapter dealing specifically with Tiny Tim's work with Martin Sharp, exclusive interviews with the Australian artist himself, and the book also takes its name from the nickname which Martin Sharp bestowed upon Tiny Tim. The book will cover the life and work of Tiny Tim and his musical contributions to the world, which not only inspired but also entertained many people.

The book will accompany the re-release of Tiny Tim's catalogue to be distributed through Blue Pie.

TINY TIM COLLECTION TO BE RERELEASED THROUGH BLUE PIE

Sydney - 18th May 2011 - Effective Immediately - Music from the larger-than-life 60s pop icon Tiny Tim will be redeveloped and redistributed by Blue Pie.

Blue Pie Records will be redeveloping and redistributing a number of the Grammy-Award nominee Tiny Tim's recordings via digital distribution with the accompanied album art to be contributed by renowned artist Martin Sharp.

Working together with Martin Sharp's 'Tiny Tim' Project Manager David Rowe, Blue Pie will be bringing back to life many of Tiny Tim's popular songs and memories, echoing the talent that he once carried. His recordings will be digitally remastered and remixed by the best digital and production teams to ensure high quality recordings of each and every one of his past works. The redeveloped material will then be available online via iTunes, eMusic and other leading digital retailers.

Herbert Khaury, better known by his stage name Tiny Tim (April 1932 - November 1996), was an American singer and ukulele player. He was most famous for his rendition of Tiptoe Through the Tulips sung in a distinctive high falsetto/vibrato voice (though other performances reveal a broader vocal range). While Tiny Tim was sometimes regarded as a novelty act, his recordings demonstrate a wide knowledge of American popular songs, particularly of the early 20th century.

To be release with the recordings, Australian artist and underground cartoonist, Martin Sharp will be providing the album artworks for said releases. He has a large and wealthy collection of artworks and cartoons, which he had worked on for Tiny Tim, and that reflect the pop-art culture of the 60s and 70s. His famous psychedelic posters of Bob Dylan, Donovan and others, rank as classics of the genre, alongside the work of Rick Griffin, Hapshash and the Coloured Coat and Milton Glaser. His covers, cartoons and illustrations were a central feature of Oz magazine, both in Australia and in London. Martin co-wrote one of Cream's most famous songs, Tales of Brave Ulysses, created the cover art for Cream's Disraeli Gears album, and in the 1970s, he became a champion of singer Tiny Tim, and of Sydney's embattled Luna Park.

Tiny Tim: Lost & Found 1963-1974

Now available at secretsevenrecords.typepad.com and Amazon.com

(Rare & Unreleased Recordings)

Tiny Tim: Lost and Found 1963-1974 Tiny Tim: Lost & Found 1963-1974 is a (vinyl only) collection of 15 obscurities, consisting of previously unreleased acetates, privately pressed 45's, and an early '60's studio session arranged by Milton Glaser. Much of the material on this release was thought to have been lost to time, but after many years of collecting and compiling by Tiny Tim enthusiasts, Secret Seven Records is making it available to a wider audience for the first time.

Lost & Found contains tracks from Tiny's pre-fame years, recorded between 1963 and 1966, as well as songs from his post-fame years, recorded between 1971 and 1974. The material from the 1960's represents the years in which Tiny scraped by, performing in dives in Greenwich Village and living with his parents who had, by 1963, written him off as mentally ill. The material from the early 1970's, although recorded while his mainstream career was in its decline, features some of the most intriguing, eclectic, and enjoyable material of his career.

This limited edition VINYL LP (initial pressing of 500 copies) includes liner notes by Tiny Tim historian / biographer, Justin A. Martell and a cover photo by Baron Wolman.

Tiny Tim - "I've Never Seen A Straight Banana - Rare Moments: Volume 1"

We like characters here at 'Collectors' Choice Music', because characters often make the best music, and thus our label roster has the likes of Spike Jones, Shel Silverstein, Little Richard and even Wildman Fischer. But there is one artist who out-characters them all, Mr. Herbert Khaury a.k.a. Tiny Tim, and with this release we proudly add him to our colorful label roster! Actually, Tim's outrageous persona and 'Tonight Show' wedding tended to obscure the fact that the guy was a walking encyclopedia of early American popular music, and you can hear that on this collection of completely UNRELEASED recordings recorded and produced in 1976. Tim takes us from the earliest Edison cylinders all the way up through Eddie Cantor, Bob Dylan and then-contemporary songs of the day, with some originals and no shortage, of, yes, character on these 15 tracks! Tiny Tim biographer Justin Martell contributes liner notes.

Includes 'Prelude: What Strange God Designed Me? I've Never Seen a Straight Banana' (with a full band overdub starring Terre Roche of the Roches); 'Baby Shoes; Mr. Phonograph; It's Not Your Nationality; Nobody Loves a Fat Man; You Are Heaven Here on Earth; The Space Ship Song; Tiny Meets Dylan: Vagabond Lover/Like a Rolling Stone/My Time Is Your Time; Granny/Carolina Mammy; You Can Take Me Away from Dixie (but You Can't Take Dixie from Me); School Days; With My Guitar; Dear Tuesday; I Found You; When They're Old Enough to Know Better (It's Better to Leave Them Alone)', and some ?deleted scenes.? A guaranteed good time, a 'Collectors; Choice Music' exclusive! Available now.
