"Death is never polite," Tiny Tim said in October after he faced his own mortality. The singer's
heart finally gave out Saturday while he was warbling his trademark song, and at age 66, death found
him as he had prayed it would: with "the strength to go out without complaining."
"I don't think he had time to feel pain," says wife Susan Khaury, who was with the entertainer at the
Minneapolis performance. "He died singing Tip-Toe Thru'the Tulips, and the last thing he heard was
the applause, and the last thing he saw was me." He was midway through his fifth song when he was
helped off the stage, and then he collapsed. Tiny Tim was pronounced dead at 11:20 p.m. at Hennepin
County Medical Center.
A diabetic who suffered from congestive heart disease, he was playing in a ukulele festival in
Massachusetts Sept. 28 when he collapsed and was hospitalized for 11 days there. He returned to
Minneapolis, his home since 1995, and vowed never to tour again.
Saturday was his third performance since that hospital stay.
